Master of the gardens, though he shows forbearance
The master of Jinan, though he feigns endurance,
He yearns for the gardens, hoping for and fearing them
Loves Jinan—he hopes for her, yet fears her.
She is his mistress in meaning, and rightfully so
She is his mistress in essence, and rightfully so,
While people call him her master in word
While people, in name alone, call him her master.
