In the early morn of youthful glee,
Hasten today to the morning draught,
Pour in the goblet's bliss for me;
And defy the censor regarding wine.
While yet my soul the feast prolongs,
Pour me a drink of a vintage deep,
Quaff from the palm-wine fresh and strong.
That witnessed Noah upon the Ark.
Give me the cup where friendship glows,
A liquor that partners within your frame,
With drafts that cheer life's weary close;
A second spirit with your own soul.
But when thou fill'st the generous bowl,
If you were to catch but a breath of it,
Let reason ride the helm of soul.
You would deem it a burst of pure perfume.
Nor launch my reckless bark alone
And none mounts a steed, under its sway,
On passion's wave with rashness strown.
Save for one wild and unbridled.
