قُل لِمَن يَدَّعي سُلَيماً سَفاهاً

لَستَ مِنها وَلا قُلامَةَ ظُفرِ

Tell the one who falsely claims to be from the tribe of Sulaym,

Say to him who claims the tribe of Sulaym in folly:

You are not from it, not even a fingernail.

You are not of their kin, not even a fingernail's paring.

إِنَّما أَنتَ مِن سُلَيمٍ كَواوٍ

أُلحِقَت في الهِجاءِ ظُلماً بِعَمروِ

Rather, you are from Sulaym like an additional Waw,

You are to Sulaym only like that silent 'Waw',

Who was unjustly included in satire with ‘Amr.
