1. كَأَنَّما وَجهُهُ وَالكَأسُ إِذ قَرُبَت

    مِن فيهِ بَدرٌ تَدَلّى مِنهُ مِصباحُ

    It was as if his face and the cup when brought near his mouth

    Was a full moon hanging down from which a lamp shown

  2. مُدَجَّجٌ بِسِلاحِ الحُبِّ يَحمِلُهُ

    طَرفُ الجَمالِ بِسَيفِ الطَرفِ طَمّاحُ

    Adorned with the raiments of love he carries

    The elegance of beauty with the glances’ sword an archer swift

  3. فَالسَيفُ مَضحَكُهُ وَالقَوسُ حاجِبُهُ

    وَالسَهمُ عَيناهُ وَالأَهدابُ أَرماحُ

    Thus the sword his laughter and the bow his brow

    And the arrows his eyes and the lashes spears
