دَمعَةٌ كَاللُؤلُؤِ الرَط
بِ عَلى الخَدِّ الأَسيلِ
A teardrop like a dewdrop
A tear like a pearl, moist and fresh,
Slid down the flowing cheek
Upon the cheek, smooth and fair,
قَطَرَت في ساعَةِ البَي
نِ مِنَ الطَرفِ الكَحيلِ
In a moment of parting
Fell in the hour of separation
From the darkened eyelid
From the dark, kohl-rimmed eye.
إِنَّما يَفتَضِحُ العا
شِقُ في وَقتِ الرَحيلِ
For the lover is shamed
For the lover is only exposed
Only at the time of leaving
At the time of the sad farewell.
