He made me drink from his hands and eyes
He gave me drink from his hands and from his eyes,
Two draughts from matured wine
Two draughts taken from the vintage wine;
So I spent the night moaning from his drinks
So I spent the night reeling from his dual potion,
Yearning, having been tested with two sorrows
Humbled, and bound by a double distress.
A crescent moon is shining, a full moon is for nine
A shining crescent, a moon of nine nights,
And two have passed after two
With a third gone by, following on two,
He turns from the winebearer, daughter of seven
He pours out a spirit, the daughter of seven,
And one passed after two
And one more year, that passed after two.
I say to him, though he dismissed the wine-pourers
I said to him, as our slumber was chased away:
Make it return and give us the two comforts
"Pass it round, and give us drink from your two palms."
