Tell the one with the alluring eyes
Say to the one with the bewitching glance,
And the one with the frowning face
And to the possessor of the wrathful face,
And the one to whom beauty bends
And to the one toward whom Beauty turns
The necks of hearts
The submissive necks of human hearts,
O rod of myrrh that shakes
O slender bough of the willow that sways
On the branch of the bramble
Above a rounded dune of sand,
We are pleased with peace
We are content with a simple greeting,
Or words from one near
Or a brief word spoken from near,
By Jesus' holy spirit
So by the Holy Spirit, Jesus,
And reverence for the cross
And by the veneration of the Cross,
Stop when you come to us
Pause when you come before us,
Then greet, my beloved
Then greet me, O my beloved.
