أضجَرَني الناسُ يقولون تب

مالي وللناسِ وما شانيه

People have vexed me, saying repent,

The people vex me, saying: "Repent!"

What business of mine are other people and their affairs?

What have I to do with people, or they with my affairs?

إن كنتُ للنار فما حيلتي

عذّبني اللَهُ وأشقانيه

If I am for hellfire, then I have no escape,

If I am destined for the Fire, what recourse is mine?

God has tormented me and made me suffer.

God has tormented me and made me wretched.

أو كنتُ للجنّةِ أحيا بها

فما عليكم يا بني الزانيه

Or if I am for paradise, I will live in it,

Or if I am meant for Paradise, to live therein,

So what is it to you, O sons of adulteresses?

Then what is it to you, O sons of whores?
