My love, if you refuse me what I hope for
Jinan, if you grant, O my desire, that for which
I fear the sky will rain not water but blood
I hope, the heavens will not weep tears of blood.
And if you persist in denying me
But if you persist—may you never persist—in
I'll become a ruin in the desert sands
Your refusal, I shall become decayed bones in the waste.
I've hung on though others of the past would,
I am bound to one who, if she claimed the souls of
If they returned, regret their stubbornness
The ancients and those to come, would feel no regret.
If his gaze fell upon a stone it would
Were her eye to cast its gaze upon a stone,
Sicken that stone with his own listlessness
Its languid look would breed a sickness within it.
