I am clad in a fine blue robe,
I venture forth at dawn with a fierce, cutting merlin,
Delicate, finely woven and designed,
Purebred, with delicate plumage and elegant form,
Dyed by Na'aman the sleepless,
Captured with lime in the wilds of Na'man Sahradaz,
Our livelihood is hunting and trapping,
It hunts for us both daily bread and the spoils of sport,
Adorning the hand of the bearer and the glover,
The true ornament of the bearer's hand and gauntlet,
So many expert archers,
How often it strikes the long-legged, swift-bounding game,
Daring, nicknamed Father of Arrows,
That daring creature nicknamed the 'Father of Cowering',
Brief in expression, concise in composition,
Relentless in battle, swift and decisive in the kill,
He has long dwelt in fortresses,
That had long made its home in fortified refuges,
Suspending it on the musk bags,
Only to be snatched by him on the hard, open ground,
A task leading the train of camels
With a strike that rends the spines of the fleeing,
With bags of charitable offerings,
With curved talons of unerring, piercing aim,
Like the handicrafts of a skilled artisan,
Sharp as the awls of a master leatherworker,
Shading them without any fringes,
Singling out the prize alone, needing no marshal's aid,
The son of Baz has accomplished and the work of Baz is done,
With the stature of a noble bird and the skill of a hawk,
What a good friend at the time of need!
What an excellent friend in the hour of need.
