I do not untie the belt from the sword
I will not willingly unloose the saddle from my wasted steed, short of Ibn Khalid, the Great Bestower,
Beside the son of Khalid Al-Wahhab
For when I reach the boundless sea of Abu al-Fadl, I shake the dust of ill-fortune from my robes.
So if you pass the sea of Abi Al-Fadl
The image of Jupiter in the house of moonlight, and the Sun itself are you in noble station;
I will shake off misfortunes from my clothes
Rawis is not—when marching before the Whale—nor the Full Moon as it plunges to its setting,
The image of the buyer is in the house of Nur Al-Layl
More generous than you with what souls cling to, when the udders wither and the milk-flow fails;
While you are present at the counting
No, nor is Mars taking the high western sky, while the winter night grows long in calculation,
Rawis is not present when he walked before the whale
More cutting than you in the heat of war, nor more terrifying to the eye when necks are struck.
And the moon when it inclined to descend
You are more generous with what the souls stingily withhold
When the beads of milk are decreasing
Neither Bahram controls the sky of the west
Nor is the night excessive in counting
You are firmer in wars and I do not indulge
When heads are struck off
