إنّ لي أيراً خبيثاً

عادمَ الرأسِ فَليتا

I have an evil bird

Verily, I possess a wicked prick,

With no head, I wish

Headless, unleashed, and far too quick.

لو رأى في الجوّ صدعاً

لنزا حتى يموتا

If it saw a crack in the sky

If it saw a fissure in the air,

It would fly up until it dies

It would leap until it perished there.

أو رأى في السّقفِ دِبراً

يتحوّل عنكبوتا

Or if it saw a hole in the ceiling

Or if it spied a backside in the ceiling,

It would turn into a spider

It transforms into a spider, reeling.

أو رآه جوفُ بحرٍ

صارَ للأنعاظِ حوتاً

Or if it saw the depth of a sea

Or if the belly of the sea it found,

It would become a whale for the ducks

It turns a whale, by pure erection bound.
