In the deep valley at dawn

Wearing two coats of resin and clay

I tended to her when I said "Fatten me up"

    Not being stingy or resentful

I doubted her fatigue as night fell dark

She let out a loud, raspy groan

With a palm that earns more than a youth with dyed hair

Of drooping temple and blunt horns

We have promises in her eyes

That address us in the lowering of eyelids

As if the rising sun approaches us

    Walking in necklaces of jasmine

I say to my she-camel when she reaches me

“You have become auspicious to me”

I did not make you an offering for sacrifice

Nor say “Gleam with the blood of slaughter”

You are prohibited to harsh conditions and journeys

And the belts of travelers and valley-dwellers
