We sing of forbidden passions, not lawful love;
We have satisfied ourselves with the forbidden over the lawful,
Of men, not women, being our heart's desire.
And with men, rather than the bedding of fair maidens,
You lead a people strong in zeal and deed;
So take for yourself a company whose beards have grown great,
In them the arrow of endeavor flies.
Among whom the arrow of the contest speeds swiftly,
Judge them not equally, while life remains,
And accept no substitute for them as long as you live,
For fortune ever takes the bravest prize.
For true fortune lies in those with reddish whiskers.
