I have indeed become full of distress
I have become a soul in deep distress,
From passion for reproach,
Because of one who loves to cast reproach.
And I have experienced from my love of him
And I have suffered in my love for him
A matter not of play.
A burden that is surely not a game.
He was unkind to me and forgot me
He shunned me and feigned forgetfulness,
After messengers and letters,
Just after the messengers and notes.
And he who is absent from the eye
For he who is absent from the eye,
Is absent from the heart.
Is truly absent from the heart.
