لَمّا تَبَيَّنتُ بِأَنّي لَهُ

أَزدادُ حُبّاً كُلَّما لاموا

When I realized that I was his,

I loved him more whenever they blamed him.

وَدِدتُ إِذ ذاكَ بِأَنَّ الوَرى

فيكَ مَدى الأَيّامِ لُوّامُ

I wished, therefore, that people

Would blame him for ages to come.
