  1. وقَفتُ على الأمواجِ أبكي وأشتاقُ

    وقلبي كأعلامِ المراكبِ خفَّاقُ

    I stood upon the waves weeping and yearning

    And my heart like the ships' flags fluttering

  2. لقد غابَ عن عينيَّ نورٌ ألِفتُهُ

    وظلَّ لِذاكَ النورِ في القلبِ إشراق

    The light I was used to has gone from my eyes

    Yet there remains in my heart its radiance shining

  3. فقلبي سماءٌ ليسَ يأفلُ نجمُها

    وفيها لأحبابي ثغورٌ وأحداق

    So my heart is a sky whose stars never set

    And in it my loved ones have citadels and towers

  4. فكم بسمةٍ فيهِ وكم فيهِ نظرةٍ

    أرى بهما ما فيهِ للعُودِ إيراق

    How many a smile and glance do I see in it

    Revealing what would make return tearful and sad
