My bold heart I see forever wounded,

And my eyelids victim of prolonged insomnia.

My soul's desires when in revolt

    Are snakes playing, hissing maliciously.

So many nights have I suffered miserably,

As if over them an afflicted one moaned.

In their redness or yellowness of stars

Are desires that have left me stricken.

How my lamp withers my face as I hurl myself

At its light until it flickers weakly.

My eyes are fettered, while sleep is freed,

And my night like a digger sealing a tomb.

So I crush my heart, destroying its hopes,

And curse an age that remains forever wicked.

The specter of gloom hits me with its wings

And I fall silent, terrified by its scream.
