1. له حلبةُ الخيلِ العتاقِ كأنّها

    نشاوى تهادت تطلبُ العَزفَ والقَصفا

    The horse arena is like young women seeking music and splendor

    Brides adorned by anklets no longer needing jewelry

  2. عرائسُ أغنتها الحجولٌ عن الحلى

    فلم تبغ خلخالاً ولا التمَسَت وقفا

    A gray stead you'd think was solid rock

    Though bared in its coverings without ornament

  3. فَمِن يَقَقٍ كالطرسِ تحسَبُ أنَّهُ

    وإن جرّدوه في مُلاءتِهِ التَفَّا

    A white gave the night half its brilliance

    And dawn leaned over it, leaving half unseen

  4. وأبلقَ أعطى الليلَ نصفَ إهابِهِ

    وغارَ عليه الصبحُ فاتحبسَ النصفا

    A pink, dusk shadows play over its hide

    When it lowered its tail and forelock in submission

  5. ووردٍ تغشى جلده شفقُ الدجى

    فإذ حازَهُ دَلَّى له الذيلَ والعُرفا

    A chestnut, the wind ruffled its leather

    Without even buffing its skin

  6. وأشقرَ مجَّ الراحَ صرفاً أديمُهُ

    وأصفرَ لم يمسح بها جلدَهُ صِرفا

    A roan, white leather dotted

    With lines making no letter shapes

  7. وأشهبَ فضي الأديم مدنرٍ

    عليه خطوطٌ غير مفهومةٍ حرفا

    As if a painter trailing his brush

    Let its tail sweep while the ink was still wet

  8. كما خطط الزاهي بمهرق كاتبٍ

    فجرَّ عليه ذيلَهُ وهو ما جفا

    Storms burst against the enemies

    Razing the idolaters' land

  9. تهبُّ على الأعداءِ منها عواصِفٌ

    ستنسِفُ أرضَ المشركين بها نَسفا

    Each part gazelle-like stealing glimpses

    Do you see a forelock or an antelope's brow?

  10. ترى كلَّ طرفٍ كالغزال فتمتري

    أظبياً ترى تحت العجاجة أم طرفا

    It grew used to the lonely desert and his herd

    A gift judicious, though deeming him a weakling

  11. وقد كان في البيداء يألفُ سِربهُ

    فربتهُ مُهرا وهيَ تحسَبُهُ خِشفا

    Named "Noble" for when wanted to race

    It doubled in speed

  12. تناوله لفظُ الجوادِ لأنهُ

    إذا ما أردت الجري أعطى له ضعفا
