I swear a solemn oath by God,

And by the Book recited and believed,

If I had a thousand tongues to use,

My longing for you they could not contain.

And if you were slow to write me one day,

No fault in a love like mine is found.

I, whose torments are beyond count,

No words can describe, no number define.

    Pages cannot contain my plaint,

Nor horses bear the burden of my love.

No quarter of yours but has my messengers,

And with your name each paper is adorned.

I do not deny I failed in my passion,

But on my good faith in you I still depend.
