1. A breeze wafts in, blown from the land of Ṭaybah;

    ah, how welcome is that breeze that blew!

  2. Through it, every yearning lover is transported with passion;

    only for the lovesick lover’s longing did the east wind blow.

  3. Through my helplessness and ill fortune, I have come to be kept far away,

    for God has not decreed that I draw near

  4. to the soil of the grave of my heart’s desire. If only I might see it

    and kiss the earth—the dust around its precincts!

  5. There lies the best messenger ever sent to all creation;

    his message has encompassed non-Arabs and Arabs alike.

  6. With his awesome presence he felled his foes; enough for them

    is a Prophet who inspires terror across the farthest distance.

  7. A bearer of good tidings, a warner—how abundant the gifts and generosity

    whenever, on any day, he engaged in peace or war!

  8. In his courtyard, those arriving throng together

    that they may drink from his Pool, the sweet watering place.

  9. His proofs are hidden from no one endowed with insight;

    were it not for him, we would never have known a Lord was ours.

  10. In his qualities he surpassed all the prophets:

    when the forenoon sun appears, it hides the stars.
