  1. خَلِّني من ملامةِ اللُّوَّامِ

    وأَدر في الدُّجَى كئوسَ المُدَامِ

    Leave me be, you who blame me,

    And pour the wine cups in the dark of night.

  2. وتَيقَّظ للَّهو مذ نام طَرفُ الد

    دهر وارتَع في غفلة الأيامِ

    Awaken to pleasure though the eyelids sleep,

    While time marches on in heedless days.

  3. وإنما العيشُ أن يُوَافيك في الليل

    بشمس النهار بَدرُ التَّمَامِ

    For life is to find you in the night

    The sun of day, the full moon's light.

  4. حَيِّها بالقبول منك كما حَيَّتك

    والقَ ابتسامها بابتسامِ

    Greet her with acceptance from you, as she greeted you,

    And meet her smile with a smile.

  5. ذاتُ لُطفٍ حَلت وإن تَكُ ما حلَّت

    محلَّ الأرواح في الأجسامِ

    A gentle soul has come, though she came not before,

    To fill souls in bodies.

  6. فاسقنيها صرفاً ونَزَه حَلال الماء

    عن أن تَشُوبَهُ بحَرام

    So serve it to me pure and fresh like lawful water,

    Far from anything sinful.

  7. وَالهُ عن رامة ونَجدٍ وعن وَصفٍ

    أراك لديهما وبَشَامِ

    Take it far from gossip and immorality and from description -

    I see you have them both as well as wine.

  8. خَلِّ رَبعاً عَفا وباكر رَبيعاً

    أنتجته مُقدِّماتُ الغَمَامِ

    Leave a garden of pardon and an early spring

    Brought by the harbingers of clouds.

  9. إنما العمر هَجمَةٌ ومسراتُ

    الليالي تمرُّ كالأحلامِ

    For life is an onslaught, and the joys

    Of nights pass like dreams.

  10. وإذا خفت من أثامِ فعَفوُ اللَه

    لا يُرتَجى لغير الاثامِ

    And if you fear sins, God's pardon

    Cannot be hoped for by any but sinners.

  11. تُب عن التَّوبَةِ التي سَوَّلَتها

    لك في النفس كثرة الأوهامِ

    Repent of the repentance which

    Whispered empty fancies into your soul.

  12. وانسَها طول شهر شعبانَ واذكُر

    ها إذا ما استهلَّ شهرُ الصيامِ

    Forget it through all of Sha'ban, and recall it

    When the month of fasting begins.

  13. وتناول رَطلاً عَتيقاً من الخمر

    عَقِيبَ الغذاء والحَمَّامِ

    Take an aged bottle of wine

    After food and bath.

  14. واجعل النَّقلَ لَثمَ خَدٍ وثَغرٍ

    من هلالٍ أبدَاه غُصنُ قَوَام

    Let the taste be a kiss of cheek and lip

    From a crescent moon revealed by a swaying branch.

  15. صِفَةٌ تشهد الجماعة إني

    لست أرضى فيها ابنَ سينا غلامي

    The group bears witness that I

    Will not be pleased with Avicenna as my servant.
