ولم ألق في بيتي دثاراً أُعدُّهُ

لبردٍ ولا شيء يردُّ هجيرا

I have not kept at home a blanket to protect

Against the cold, nor anything to repel the bitter wind.

فأنفخ شِدقي إن أردتَ وسادةً

وأفرش ظلِّي إن أردت حصيرا

So blow into my cheek if you want a pillow,

And spread out my shadow if you want a mat.
