فؤادي قد براه البين لما

تزلزل طوره يوم الرهان

أنست بوحدتي ونسيت ألفي

ولم أدر مكاني على الزمان

I forgot in my loneliness and forgot my habits

And did not know my place in time

أذاب الشوق مني كل عضو

فإني قد خفيت عن الزمان

Longing melted every limb of me

So I have been hidden from time

فلو أني بكيت لقال تشكو

ولو أني سلوت لقال هان

If I cried, it would say you are complaining

If I was humble, it would say you are despised

ولو أني طلبت الوصل نادى

ألم أعلم بأنك في التفان

If I sought connection, it would call

Did I not know you are in agony?

ولو أني جننت لقال غيضا

ألا مت بالمطامع والهوان

If I went crazy, it would say it is fury

Alas, you died of ambitions and disgrace!

ولو أني فنيت لقال تيها

فإني فوق ما ترجو الأمان

If I perished, it would say you are lost

For I am above what you wish for safety

أبيت سمير بين البين حتى

نحلت فلا أرى مما براني

I spent the night sleepless till

I was granted so I see nothing that distracted me

نحرت لضيف طيفك نوم جفني

فسال دم الكرى مثل الجماني

I slaughtered the sleep of my eyelid for the ghost of you

So the blood of agony flowed like sap

وغاب الكل عن كلي فأنتم

هم كلي وأنتم ساتران

And all faded from me so you

Are all my care and you are the coverers

إذا ما قلت صل صبا تثنت

وقالت لا يراني إلا فان

If I said “welcome morning breeze,” it would refuse

And say “he cannot see me but he is dying”

أريد وصالكم والوصل عذب

وأنا لي وأنتم فرقدان

I want to join you and connection is sweet

While I am to myself and you are in slumber
