1. Take provision from this world, for you are departing;

    and hasten, for death, without a doubt, is descending.

  2. Your deliverance in this world is delusion and bitter regret,

    and your sorrow in this world is absurd and vain.

  3. Behold, this world is only like a rider’s lodging:

    he halts there at evening, then at dawn moves on.

  4. If only humankind knew what they would meet tomorrow

    in the Abode Everlasting, they would not go forth to do evil.

  5. Behold, this world is only like a trap fitted with a noose—

    love, so they may long for you within it, with food as bait.
