The shining stars lent their eyes

أرقت لشجو الورق والنجم شاهد

لدي وقاضي العشق فيه جرائم

I was moved by the rustling leaves and the witnessing stars

While before love's judge, many are my crimes.

أريد هجوعا عل طيفك ينجلي

فترصد لي جفنا لديه صوارم

I want to return to your phantom and find clarity,

So watch over me, your eyelids like swords.

إذا هبت النكباء دب بجسمنا

لذيذ ليالي الوصل فيها مواسم

When disasters struck, pleasure coursed through us

During the sweet nights of union and their seasons.

كما دبت الصهباء لما تجوهرت

بجسم صريع فيه غنّت حمائم

As pleasure spread when pearls were strung

On the slain beauty, doves sang their laments.

تصحف لي أجفانه لين غصنه

فواكبدي حنت لصخر تهادم

Your soft branches shape eyelids for me,

So my liver softened for the crumbling rock.

وكل جمال في البرية أصله

جمال له كل القلوب تراجم

All beauty in the wilderness stems

From a beauty to which all hearts are translators.

ومن لم يكن يوم الزحام ملبيا

لنيل سهام الجفن فيه تراكم

One who on the day of crowds is not

Seeking the arrows of the eye's glance

فما ذاق من طعم الغرام لذاذة

وليس له في العشق سهم يساهم

Has never tasted love's sweet delight

Nor has a share in love's arrows.
