وراح الول رام للحسان

The heart's glass is a cup in time

While the first went, intending for tenderness

تكللت الزهور بعذب ماء

لأن الراح راح للجنان

The flowers were crowned with sweet water

Because the wind went to the heavens

نسيم الورد هب على الندامى

فأسكرهم بسندسه الجمان

The rose breeze blew upon the repentants

Intoxicating them with its beautiful robe

تفاخرت الظباء بظلم ظبي

فصار الحب شوقا للتداني

The gazelles boasted of the injustice of the gazelle

So love became a yearning for closeness

توقد منه ربع الحي نار

فهنوا بالسلامة مع أمان

A quarter of the neighborhood was set on fire by it

So they wished safety with security

أنا في الحي حي وهو ريع

فلى في ذلك الوادي جنان

I am alive in the neighborhood and it is alive

So for me in that valley are gardens

سرور الول أن لذا الكئيب

فلا مزح ولا عرف الأغاني

The joy of the first that the sorrowful has

So no joking nor knew of songs

ضللت عن الطريق وذا النجوم

على عيني تلوم لدى العيان

I lost the path and the stars

Blame my eyes in the presence of people

تقدارست الديار ولا ديار

فدمعي هاطل نحو الجران

The homes are demolished and no homes

So my tears pour towards the neighbors

دعاني الأنس يوما للقاء

على بده البديهة باللسان

Companionship called me one day for the meeting

With eloquence at the beginning of speech

فذاب الطود شوقا للمرام

وصد عن الملامة والمكان

The towering mountains melted longing for purpose

And desisted from blaming and place

تدكدكت الجبال علي جسري

فحق الحي يحمى ذا المدان

The mountains stumbled over my bridge

So the right of the alive protects the cities

وما شربوا المدام على الطلول

وما شهدوا الجفون لدى المعان

They did not drink wine upon maturity

Nor did they witness the eyelids at the purposes

أزالت عن مطالعها اللثاما

فساهرت العيون في كل آن

It uncovered its horizons from the bonds

So the eyes stayed awake at every moment

تفاخرت الفحول في وصف ليلى

فما وصفوا وما بلغوا الجنان

The gallant boasted describing Layla

But did not describe nor reached the heavens

فكل قد شذا قول الهيام

وكل منهم في توى ثوان

Everyone disagreed on the words of passion

And each of them in a different moment
