1. عرج بمنعرج الكثيب الأخضد

    بين العقيق وبين حي الخرد

    He climbed the green hillock's winding path

    Between al-Aqeeq and Kheybar's district

  2. واسلك حرى ومناهل الوراد في

    عذبات رند للهضاب الورد

    And took to the valleys and meadows of roses

    In the sweet-watered highlands blooming with roses

  3. فإذا علقت بربع قلبي حيه

    إن الفؤاد رهين ربع الفؤاد

    And when you clung to the piece of my heart that lives

    Indeed my heart is the hostage of a piece of heart

  4. وانثر على قصر العقيق عقيق دم

    عِ صبابة الوجد الكئيب الأكمد

    Strew 'Aqeeq castle with 'Aqeeq's blood

    The sighs of ardent passion, woeful and profound

  5. وسلكت ما بين البشام ورنده

    وسكرت من دن الرحيق بعسجد

    And I traveled between Basham and its meadows

    And got drunk on the wine of the meadows prostrated

  6. وقطعت ما بين الشظا وتصاعدت

    زفرات وجد من ضلوع القمهد

    And crossed between al-Shatha and climbed

    Moans of passion from the ribs of the lover distraught

  7. وأتت من ودانه في إدخر

    وطربت ما بين الخيام وصرغد

    And she came from her tribe in the late morning

    And was joyous between the tents and the SRGHD

  8. فاقر السلام أهيله عني وقل

    صب الجمال متيم بالإسأد

    So bid her people peace from me and say

    The essence of beauty is your love-sick Mutayyam

  9. قد طالما قد أبرزت عيناه من

    سفح الدموع ممزجا بتنكد

    Many times has he revealed his eyes from

    The slopes of tears mixed with melancholy

  10. ليت الزمان بوصلنا ووصالنا

    غنى فأغنى عن وصال العود

    If only time would reunite us and our reunion

    Would suffice and make up for the union denied

  11. يا قلب قم نحو الحبيب متيما

    عل الزمان بوصلنا لم يحسد

    Oh heart set out longingly to the beloved

    Even if time did not grant our reunion out of envy

  12. ولرب شاجعة شجت قلبي ظنى

    نغماتها بين الأراك الأمأد

    By the Lord, her intoxicating melodies have ripped my heart

    Their tunes amidst the sand dunes profound

  13. دانت تطارحني الهوى فكأنما

    تدري الهوى بظلوعها متقعد

    Passion wrestles me down as if she knows

    Passion in its beginnings lying in wait

  14. وكأنما تدري الذي بجوانح الص

    صب العليل المرتدي بالأنكد

    As if she knows what the one smitten feels

    The suffering lover clad in melancholy

  15. فبكيت من ألم النوى وجدا به

    وبكت بغير الدمع فوق الأملد

    So I cried from the pain of longing, with him I cried

    And without tears atop the sand dunes he cried

  16. من فاته أبدا وصال حبيبه

    فليرسل الدمع الهتور العربد

    He who is forever deprived of his lover's union

    Should send forth tears flooding copiously

  17. واها على دهر مضى واها له

    فبشعبه ورد الظباء القصد

    Oh what a past time that has gone by, oh what a time

    With its paths and wild goats' grazing grounds

  18. ما أحرزت تلعات نجد كالربى

    كالشيح كالسرح العظام العلكد

    I gained nothing like the meadows of Najd

    Like Ash-Shaikh, like As-Sarh, and mighty Al-'Alkad

  19. كالقاعة والعساء والعنمي من

    ويد الأثيلات الشعاب الصرغد

    Like Al-Qa'a, Al-'Asa, and Al-'Anami from

    The valleys and clefts of Adh-Dhahran and Sardhad

  20. كالزاهر الدكناء والظهران والت

    تنعيمِ والزوراء ثم الفيد

    Like Az-Zahir, Ad-Dakhina, Ath-Thahran and At-Ti

    Of An-Nai'm, and Az-Zura, and Al-Fayd

  21. كالنازلي أرض الهراة وهضبها

    ورياضها والمنحنى والمبأبد

    Like the dwellers of Al-Hira's land, its plateau

    And meadows, and Al-Munhani and Al-Mubrid

  22. كالساكني ربع التنية واللوى

    والحلة الفيحاء بين الفرهد

    Like the inhabitants of At-Tanees and Al-Lawa

    And Al-Hila Al-Fayha between Al-Farhad

  23. بألذ من تلك الدهور مضت لنا

    طيبا وليس أريجها كالأبيد

    Sweeter than those past times that went by

    With their enduring fragrance never to fade

  24. فيها رمت بنبال جفن في الوغى

    فكأنني وكأنها في مورد

    In them I flung the arrows of my eyelids in battle

    As if I and as if she were both charging ahead

  25. هيفاء تزري بالمحاسن والطلا

    تختال كالغصن الرطيب الأنأد

    A gazelle frolicking with beauty and swaying

    Like a moist verdant branch gently wavering

  26. قد ساقه أرج النسيم بروضه

    فكأنها من حسنه في فرقد

    Borne by the scented breeze in the garden

    As if from its beauty in the crown jewel bed

  27. إنسانة فتّانة قتّالة

    وعدت ولكن الزمان مبعدي

    A tempting, slaying woman

    You promised but time has drawn us apart

  28. وتميس بين معصفر ومزعفر

    وممسك ومعنبر ومهند

    Primping between musk, ambergris and musk

    And amber and oud of Hend

  29. ولها سنان من نصال قد غدت

    تطوي بها كل السفنج الورد

    With teeth like the blades

    That file down every tender sprig of roses

  30. صهباء ليس كؤوسها إلا التني

    يات العذاب على رضاب الجلد

    An amber-skinned beauty whose only cups

    Are disciplines of torment upon stripes incurred

  31. غنت فأفنت ثم أبلت أسكرت

    ندمانها بتلفتات في دد

    She sang and so enchanted, then displayed

    Her coquetry in her movements to and fro

  32. ظهرت وأبدت من بديع جمالها

    برقا أذاب حشاشة في المعهد

    She appeared and revealed from her wondrous beauty

    A lightning that melted the stubbornness in my bone marrow

  33. سترت وأهدت من حواشي حسنها

    وردا أبان عذار وجد مهند

    She veiled herself and gifted from her beauty's fringes

    A rose that revealed tender passion and love distraught

  34. فتكاتها تبلي الأسود فلم تدع

    للعاشقين جواهر في كرمد

    Her seductions dissolve the lions, leaving

    No jewels for lovers in her generous nature

  35. فتنت مواهي حسنها في حسنها

    فكأنها وكأننا كالمفرد

    The allure of her beauty in her beauty has tempted

    As if she and as if we were alone together
