سرى بفؤادي الوجد نحوك هائم

فعرضني حتفا من القرب قاصم

My heart overflowed with longing for you

And in getting close, it met its doom

فنجم الدياجي قد أعار جفونه

لصب لدى الأطلال سهده دائم

The shining stars lent their eyes

To shed tears forever by the ruins

أرقت لشجو الورق والنجم شاهد

لدي وقاضي العشق فيه جرائم

I was wakeful from the rustling of leaves and stars were witness

To my love's crimes that reside in them

أريد هجوعا عل طيفك ينجلي

فترصد لي جفنا لديه صوارم

I want to return to your ghost to find clarity

So eyes that possess blades may watch over me

إذا هبت النكباء دب بجسمنا

لذيذ ليالي الوصل فيها مواسم

When misfortune crept into our bodies

The sweet nights of union had seasons in them

كما دبت الصهباء لما تجوهرت

بجسم صريع فيه غنّت حمائم

As pale dawn crept in the body

Of a slain one, in whom doves sang

تصحف لي أجفانه لين غصنه

فواكبدي حنت لصخر تهادم

His eyelids bestow upon me soft branches

So I befriended a rock worn by time

وكل جمال في البرية أصله

جمال له كل القلوب تراجم

And all beauty in the wilderness stems

From a beauty to which all hearts are translators

ومن لم يكن يوم الزحام ملبيا

لنيل سهام الجفن فيه تراكم

And whoever was not ready on the day of crowding

To attain the arrows of the eyelids within them accumulating

فما ذاق من طعم الغرام لذاذة

وليس له في العشق سهم يساهم

Then they have not tasted the sweetness of love's delight

And has no arrow to contribute in love
