مضى الصّاحِبُ الكافي ولم يَبقَ بعدَهُ
كَريمٌ يُرَوِّي الأرضَ فَيضُ غَمامِهِ
The all-sufficing friend has passed away; after him there remains no
generous man whose raincloud’s outpouring waters the earth.
فَقَدناهُ لّما تمَّ واعتمَّ بالعُلا
كذاكَ خُسوفُ البَدرِ عندَ تَمامِهِ
We lost him just when he reached perfection and donned the turban of eminence—
thus is the full moon eclipsed at the moment of its fullness.
