1. للمرءِ من شهوتِهِ آمِرٌ

    مُغرٍ ومِن حِكمَتِهِ ناهي

    Man has from his passions an insistent commander,

    Enticing and from his wisdom a forbidder,

  2. والحُرُّ من يهجرُ ما يشتهي

    صيانةً للعرضِ والجاهِ

    And the free man is he who abandon what he craves,

    To safeguard honor and distinction,

  3. ومَن أرادَ الفوزَ فليعتقد

    حقاً ويلبس ثَوبَ أَوّاهِ

    And whoever wants triumph must believe

    Truly and wear the garment of God-fearing,

  4. وليعرف اللّه بأفعالِهِ

    وليعرِف الأَفعالَ باللّهِ

    And know God through His actions,

    And know the actions through God.
