1. I speak, while my heart is terror-stricken by our parting,

    and down my cheek a torrent pours at our farewell.

  2. If Time, the disperser, has rent our union,

    then Time has a decree to which everyone must submit.

  3. And indeed I hope that our time will return

    in happiness—for after dispersal comes spring.

  4. After retreat, success resumes a straight course,

    and after setting, the sun rises.

  5. And if a blessing departs from the beloved and comes to an end,

    then after its passing, it will return.

  6. Put your trust in God, and patiently endure His decree;

    for evil’s departure from you will be swift.
