كَمْ مِنَّةٍ مِنهُ عَلى عَلِيِّ

بلا بَلاءٍ قد مضى مُضِيِّ

How many favors from him upon Ali

Without affliction, already passed favorably

ولا ولاءٍ سابِقٍ مَرْضِيِّ

إلاّ إلى تَهدِيَةِ الهَدِيِّ

Nor preceding loyalty pleasing

Except to the gift of the guide

فِعلَ الأبِ الحَفِيِّ بالصَّبِيِّ

The elder did to the youth
