أُعلِّلُ بالمُنى نَسي لَعَلِّي

أُخَفِّفُ وَقْدَ نارِ الشَّوقِ عَنِّي

I make excuses with hope that I may forget

I try to alleviate the burning fire of longing within me

وأعلَمُ أنَّ وصلَكَ لا يُرَجّى

ولكِتْ لا أقَلِّ مِنَ التَّمنيِّ

I know that being with you is not to be hoped for

Yet I cannot stop wishing
