لا يَغُرَنَّكَ أنَّني لَيِّنُ اللَّمْ

سِ فَعَزمي إذا انتضيت حُسامُ

Do not be deceived that I am soft of speech,

For when I unsheathe my sword, my will is strong.

أنا كالوردِ فيه راحَةُ قَومٍ

ثمَّ فيهِ لآخرِينَ زُكامُ

I am like a rose, a comfort for some,

Yet for others, I bring but a runny nose.
