1. أولى عَدُوٍّ بان يطالِبَهُ

    ذو العَقلِ دونَ الأعداءِ بالإحَنِ

    The most worthy enemy for the wise man to challenge

    Is himself, not external foes, with resolve

  2. مَنْ لم تَغِبْ عنهُ حيثُ كانَ ومَنْ

    شاركْتَهُ في المَحلِّ والوَطَنِ

    One whose faults never escape him wherever he is

    And with whom he shares a homeland and abode

  3. ومَنْ لهُ في اغتيالِهِ حِيَلٌ

    تحارُ منهُ غوائلُ الزَّمَنِ

    One who has crafty ways to betray him

    That confuse even the machinations of time

  4. فليسَ يُنجِيهِ مِن مكايدِهِ

    حِصنٌ ولا جُنَّةً مِنَ الجُنَنِ

    No fortress or refuge from madness can save him

    From this one's schemes once they intertwine

  5. وقَبلَمَ نفسُ الفتَى ففِتنَتُها

    إذا تأمَّلْتَ أعظمَ الفِتَنِ

    Before the self corrupts, it charms the soul

    Look - this is the greatest of temptations!

  6. فابعَتْ إلى حربِها العزيمَةَ والح

    زْمَ وجيشَ الآراء والفِطَنِ

    It summons resolve, determination, an army of thoughts and wit

    To subdue it, making it your captive

  7. واحرِصْ على قَهرِها لتأسِرَها

    فقَهرُها فتَحُ أشرَفُ المُدُنِ

    For conquering it opens the noblest of cities
