إذا شئتَ أنْ تصطادَ حُبَّ أخي لُبّ

وتَملكَ مِنه حَوْزَةَ القَلبِ والخِلْبِ

If you wish to ensnare a dear one's love

And possess his heart and affection

فأشرِكْهُ في الخير الذي قد رُزِقْتَهُ

وأدخِلْهُ بالإحسانِ في شَرَكِ الحُبِّ

Then make him partner in the good you're granted

And let him in with kindness to love's partnership

ألم ترَ طَيرَ الجَوِّ تَهوي مُسِفَّةً

لِحَبٍّ كَقَطرٍ من ذُرا الجَوِّ منُصَبِّ

Don't you see the birds of air swooping down

For a speck of love like dew drops pouring down

كذَلِكَ يصطادُ ذو الرَّأْيِ والحِجا

محباتِ حَبّاتِ القُلوبِ بلا حَبِّ

So it is the wise and reasonable man ensnares
