ومن عجَبٍ أتيتُكَ شافِعاً

لِغَيري وبي فَقْرٌ إلى ألفِ شافِعِ

And how strange that I’ve come pleading

for others when I am utterly without support

ولكِنَّ أحرارَ الرِّجالِ وإن جُفوا

فشيمَتُهُمْ أنْ يسمَحوا بالمنافِع

Yet free men, even if they’re harsh

Have the nobility to allow others benefit
