يا مَنْ تبجَّحَ بالدُّنيا وزُخرُفِها
طُنْ من صُروفِ لياليها على حَذَرِ
O you who boast of this world and its splendor
Beware the turns of its nights in their caprice
ولا يَغُرُّكَ عَيشٌ إن صَفا وعَفا
فالَمرءُ من غَرَرِ الأيّامِ في غَرَرِ
Let not an easy life deceive you should it be pure and spare
For man is ever amid the world's guiles in guile
إنَّ الزَّمانَ كما جَرَّبْتَ خِلقَتَهُ
مُقَسَّمُ الأمرِ بين الصَّفْوِ والكَدَرِ
Time is, as you have seen, of a nature
Divided between joy and misery
