عللاني بذكر تلك الليالي

وعهود عهدتها كاللالي

Console me with the memory of those nights, / And covenants I cherished like pearls.

I never forget a night of intimacy for love, / When it assaulted separation with reunion.

لست أنسى للحب ليلة أنس

صال فيها على النوى بالوصال

Fate and the spy were heedless, and we passed the night, / Marveling at the alignment of the impossible.

An embrace bound us like the clasp of a sash, / With right hand knotted to the left.

غفل الدهر والرقيب وبتنا

فعجبنا من اتفاق المحال

So I cooled my burning heart by kissing roses, / And persisted until my madness was my undoing.

And cups of wine reveal a bride; / The mixture makes her mouth smile, baring pearls.

ضمنا ضمة الوشاح عناق

بيمين معقودة بشمال

And the darkness drags along withering candles, / Reflecting the wicks' light within the glass.

And the Pleiades extend a henna-dyed hand, / Dotting the 'Nun' of the crescent moon with Arcturus.

فبردت الحشى بلثم ورود

لم يزل بي حتى خبالي خبالي

As if the morning, when it loomed, was a sword / Drawn from the sheath of 'Ghayn', 'Mim', and 'Dal'.

We wiped away slumber to turn to beauties, / Maidens possessed of every lawful magic.

وكؤوس المدام تجلو عروسا

اضحك المزج ثغرها عن لال

In gardens where the flowers smiled / At clouds that wept tears of pearls.

And the fragrant breeze flowed softly, / Swaying between the East wind and the North.

ويجر الدجى ذوابل شمع

عكست في الزجاج نور الذبال

So the river clad itself in armor from the breeze, / When the rain struck its throat with arrows.

O nights, peace be upon them from me; / Do you think those nights will ever return?

والثريا تمد كفا خضيبا

أعجمت بالسماك نون الهلال

وكأن الصباح إذ لاح سيف

ينتضى من غين وميم ودال

ومسحنا الكرى إلى غانيات

غانيات بكل سحر حلال

في رياض تبسم الزهر فيها

لغمام بكت دموع لال

وجرى عاطر النسيم عليلا

فتهادى بين الصبا والشمال

فاكتسى النهر لامة منه لما

ان رمى القطر نحره بالنبال

يا ليالي مني سلام عليها

أتراها تعود تلك الليالي
