1. لَيسَ إِغلاقي لِبابي أَنَّ لي

    فيهِ ما أَخشى عَلَيهِ السَرَقا

    I do not lock my door because I hold

    Within it aught for which I fear the thief,

  2. وَإِنَّما أَغلَقتُهُ كَيلا يَرى

    سوءَ حالي مَن يَمُرُّ الطُرُقا

    I only shut it close so none might see,

    Of those who pass the way, my misery.

  3. مَنزِلٌ أَوطِنُهُ الفَقرَ فَلَو

    دَخَلَ السارِقُ فيهِ سُرِقا

    A home where Poverty has made its bed; so if

    A thief should enter, he would be the one robbed.
