الا عذر لا كان الهوى في الهوى العذر
متى ليل عسر الهجر يكشف باليسر
The excuse is no excuse when passion itself is the excuse
When will the night of estrangement's hardship unfold with ease
احباه اني قد منحتك مهجتي
ولبي بلا نهي عليك ولا امر
I have given you my heart, my love
My heart follows your order, no command or prohibition
وقد رحت ترميني بطرحي للوفا
واخطأُ رام فوّق النبل للبدر
Yet you sought to discard my devotion
Missing your throw but the arrow striking true
وخنت بدين الحب والله ناظر
وحاشاه ان يولي المآمل ذا غدر
Betraying the religion of love while God watches
Never! Betrayal cannot come from one so true
لان انا فارقت المحصب مكرها
فلا انهل في قيعانه صيب القطر
I left the battle reluctantly
So I do not revel in its pits as the rain revels
ورب كذوب والوقاحة طبعه
يريد يحل الليل في مطلع الفجر
What a liar and naturally brazen!
Seeking to turn night into the dawn's first light
تعدى حدود الله في سب خير
كريم وجازاه عن الخير بالشر
Transgressing God's limits in insulting the best
Doing good with evil, a wretched recompense
فغار له الجبار والوقح انطوت
معالمه طي السجل بلا نشر
So the Almighty was angered and the shameless one's
Features disappeared into the scroll with no release
اراد بمس الزور كتم فخاره
ويعبق طيب العود ان مس بالجمر
Seeking by fraud to hide his shame
Yet good scent spreads if touched by embers
واحمق خلق الله من راح حاجبا
بخرقته الخرقاء طالعة الظهر
And a fool whom God created is one who walked away
With his tattered gown exposing his back
واني من البيت الذي حول بابه
تداعت اسود الغاب ترجف بالذعر
While I am from the house around which
Wolves of the forest gathered frightened to its door
تلألأت الاقمار في عتباته
وصفت على اطرافه اوجه الزهر
The moons glittered in its thresholds
And flowers lined its edges
محل الندى والمجد بحبوحة الهدى
وبيت علوم الدين والحال والسر
The abode of dew and glory in the lap of guidance
The home of religion's sciences, situations and mysteries
بدت فيه من شمس النبوة بهجة
تهامية البرهان تطفح بالنصر
In it dawned a joy from the sun of prophecy
Overflowing with triumphant proof
به من رجال الله آل محمد
شآبيب سادات همو زينة الدهر
In it are God's sincere men, Muhammad’s family
Radiant masters who are the age's ornament
من الفاطميين الايمة غرة ال
مفاخر روح الكون دورا على دور
Among them the prime Fatimids
Pride of the universe, generation upon generation
منالعلويين الجهابذة الأولى
شموس بلاد الله في السهل والوعر
And the mighty early Alawites
Suns of God's land, in plains and hills
من الاحمديين الذين تتوجت
باذيالهم في برجها هامة النسر
Among them the Ahmadis whose train
Bore aloft the eagle's circlet
من الخالديين الاماجد من زووا
عن الدين عبأ الوهن بالبيض والسمر
Among them the glorious immortal Khālidīs
Who supported the faith, white and brown mixed
من الشم ابناء الرفاعي من علوا
وعموا صنوف الناس بالنائل الغمر
Among them the lofty sons of Rifā‘ah
Who transcended and enveloped all mankind
ولي من صدور السادة الغر والد
كريم السجايا طيب الصيت والذكر
And I have sincerest men from the family
Generous, good repute and memory
وليٌّ وفيٌّ اريحي مهذب
حليم سليم طاهر السر والسير
I have loyal, faithful and refined sheikhs
Clement, unblemished, of pure life and path
ولي بطريق الله شيخان بعده
هما درتا سلك الفخار بلا نكر
After them I have two sheikhs in God's path
They are two pearls threaded with glory undisputed
هزبر الوحا المهدي مولاي من اذا
لوى للتراب العين يعلو على التبر
Hizbar the passionate, my master - who can
Coil their eyes to dust but rise above the graves?
تفاض العطايا من شريف بنانه
كفيض سحاب رش ملتطم البحر
Gifts overflow from his noble essence
Like pouring clouds saturating the turbulent sea
وذخري ابن خير الله ذو الفضل والتقى
عليٌّ عليُّ الذات والاصل والقدر
My stores from the son of the Best of God
Exalted ‘Ali in selfhood, origin and worth
وشيخ ابي بل عمه رجب العلا
جليل المزايا واحد القوم في العصر
And the Sheikh my father, nay his paternal uncle
Sublime traits, unique among the people of his time
رجال لحل العقد ان ما ندبتهم
يجيء الرضا من حيث ادري ولا ادري
Men to untie knots, if I solicit them
Satisfaction comes from where I know and know not
تأود هداك الله يا من يرومنا
بسوء ابحر الهند يجرع بالفكر
May God guide you who wishes us ill
Sail the Indian ocean, reflect through understanding!
وهل يكسر الهندي بالجفن فانتبه
بطرح ثقيل الوهم من سنة المكر
Can the Indian break with his eyelids? So be warned
To drop your deluded thoughts and skilled deception
ورب دعي لم يطب عرق امه
يروم اندماجا بالجحاجحة الغر
Many are called but their mothers never rejoiced
Seeking to blend with the rabble’s away
ويزعم برهانا من الغيب قائما
له مثلنا ان الكذوب لفي خسر
Claiming a proof from the unseen that stands
The likes of us know the liar is ever at loss
وذي خدعة قد مزق الله دينه
فراح كئيب القلب منقلب الظهر
One of guile, God has torn his faith
He wanders dejected, his back overthrown
تشبه طيشا بالرجال لحمقه
وشتان ما بين الغنى الجم والفقر
Resembling madness in his foolishness
Far between luxury and destitution!
ومن خابط يروي علوما مغالطا
عزا هاله عن زيد جاءت وعن عمرو
One who peddles sciences falsely records
Attributes to Zayd what was of ‘Amr
يريد بملحوظ الغيوب تشبها
وبون عظيم بين خضرون والخضر
Seeking resemblance through esoteric signs
Great the difference between al-Khadir and the green one
وخائب عزم حارب الله لم يبل
بسب قروم الآل صارعة القهر
His defeated will fought God but could not
Endure the family of Quraysh’s defiance
اقام على ظلم ولله غارة
ترد بذي البئر المخادع للبئر
He stands on injustice while God has protectors
Who will return the deceiver to his well
نراقب آثار السماء واننا
نباهل ذا البهتان والنص في الذكر
We watch the heavens' motions know that we
Dismiss this false innovator, though the text remembers
وقد باهل الهادي وايد امره
وسر رسول الله في آله يسري
The Guide has declared and his command is assisted
By the Messenger’s path among his family succeeding
اما والوجوه الزهر من بيت احمد
ابي العلمين الغوث ذي المدد الوفر
Now by the luminous faces from Ahmad’s house
My father the ocean of knowledge, abundant aid
واجداده آل البتول ايمة ال
برية اقمار الهدى الخلص الطهر
And his forefathers the Prophet's family guiding stars
Pure, radiant moons of guidance and sincerity
يلذ لنفسي الموت والعج عاقد
اذا لم اكن صدر الشآبيب في الصدر
Death is sweet, decay welcome
If I am not the youths' breast within the breast
مراتب قومي والرجال معادن
وما معدن الصخر المشجج كالدر
My people's ranks, those men are mines
What mine of sparkling ore equals the pearl?
على رسلك ارفق بي احباه انني
حليف اسى اودت به لوعة الهجر
Turn gently I implore for I am an ally
Of sorrow, consumed by the fire of estrangement
احن الى مجلا محياك والها
ولوعا كما حن الحمام الى الوكر
I yearn for the gatherings of your life
Burning as the turtledove burns for its nest
اطعت بي العذال والدين منهجي
وطرزي التقى المحبوك بالصدق والصبر
Blame has wasted me while faith is my path
My way purity, woven with honesty and patience
ونفسي علت عن وهدة العيب وارتقت
الى قمة المجد المؤثل والفخر
My soul has climbed beyond fault’s depression
To glory and pride’s lofty peak
اتزعمني من قد دهاك تسلقت
ذووه المعالي وهي من غلط الدهر
You allege me one who has lost his way
While his family reached the heights? Their mistake!
دعيون لا بكر ولا قبل وائل
ولا منهم الخنساء تبكي على صخر
Not newcomers nor early Muslims among them
Nor one like Khansa weeping over Sakhr
تزاحم في سوح الدنايا قفولهم
مهرولة ترتص صدرا على صدر
Their caravan jostles in worldly plains
Galloping, chest pressed on chest
واني من الشم العرانين ما علوا
بمال ولا انحطوا عن الفخر بالفقر
While I am from the lofty Arabian Hijazi Hashemites
Who did not rise by wealth nor fall from pride through poverty
تلجلج بحر العلم فيهم مطمطما
تراثا عن الهادي وحدث عن البحر
