1. مهيجة ذات وجد

    سطا عليها الغزال

    Alluring is she, rousing passion,

    Upon her the gazelle grazes.

  2. من رمش عينيه فيها

    بكل جزء نبال

    With every blink of his eyes upon her,

    He strikes with arrows each part.

  3. ما للغزال كهذا ال

    غزال خد وخال

    No other gazelle is like this one,

    A gazelle of cheek and mole,

  4. ولا جبين منير

    عليه يزهو الهلال

    Nor a shining forehead,

    Upon which the crescent glows,

  5. ولا مهفهف خصر

    كالغصن فيه اعتدال

    Nor a swaying, slender waist,

    Like a balanced branch.

  6. ولا ملألأُ جيد

    له الصباح مثال

    Nor smooth cheeks,

    As beautiful as the morn.

  7. ولا كلام كشعري

    في الحب سحر حلال

    Nor words like my poetry,

    Of love, lawful magic.

  8. يا مكثرا بالتجني

    اطغاك هذا الجمال

    O you who reap abundantly,

    Has this beauty deluded you?

  9. للحسن يا ريم يوما

    بالرغم عنك زوال

    Beauty, O Rim, will one day,

    Decline, despite you.

  10. تظن انك كسرى

    اسرى لديك الرجال

    You think you are like Chosroes,

    Men are captive before you,

  11. او تحت خمصيك تطوى

    حين تميس الجبال

    Or that mountains bow,

    Beneath your feet when you stroll.

  12. عذبت مضناك طيشا

    يكفيك هذا الدلال

    Your capriciousness has wearied me,

    Let this flirtation suffice.

  13. دع عنك جورك وارحم

    فللزمان انفتال

    Leave your tyranny and show mercy,

    For time brings separation.

  14. فرب يوم تراه

    يخشن هذا الصقال

    Consider the day you see

    This smoothness become coarse.

  15. وكم يعود فقيراً

    من راح يطغيه مال

    And how many return poor,

    When wealth makes them haughty?

  16. يعلو الجمال ويغلو

    ان زينته الخصال

    Beauty ascends and passions flare,

    If adorned by qualities.

  17. فأرفق الحسن رفقا

    هذا الوجود ظلال

    So be gentle with beauty,

    This existence is but shadows.
