ضاقت الحيلة مني

وشوت قلبي المصائب

All recourse has failed me,

and calamities have scorched my heart.

وعدوي قد تجارا

ورماني بالمعايب

My enemy has gone too far

and assailed me with reproaches.

ليس لي منه خلاص

بل ومن كل النوائب

From him I have no deliverance,

nor, indeed, from any calamity,

ومن الأكدار إلا

بالتهامي ابن غالب

nor from sorrow—save only

through the Tihamite, descendant of Ghalib.

فهو سهم اللَه معنى

إن سهم اللَه صائب

For in essence he is God’s arrow,

and God’s arrow strikes true.

وهو الكاشف كربي

وبه أعطى المواهب

He is the one who dispels my anguish,

and through him gifts are bestowed.

وله أشكو وحاشا

أن يكون الظن خائب

To him I voice my complaint—and far be it

that my trust should prove disappointed.

فعليه صلوات اللَ

ه ما ناجاه طالب

So may God’s blessings rest upon him

as long as a seeker confides in him,

أو دعاه بانكسار

مغرم بالفضل راغب

or calls upon him in broken humility—

enamored of grace and yearning for it.

وعلى آل وصحب

ومحب والأقارب

And upon his family and companions,

all who love him, and his kin—

من هم حزب إلهي

إن حزب اللَه غالب

those who are the party of my God:

truly, God’s party prevails.
