سلام على اطلال حب رأى الجفا

له مشربا واستعذب البعد والهجرا

Greetings to the ruins of a love that saw injustice

It found solace and sweetness in distance and estrangement

سلام محب لا يزال على الوفا

وان جاء امرا في تهجمه امرا

Greetings to a lover who remains faithful

Even if one day it seems he is wavering

قبلت له عذر التجافي تأولا

ومن شرفت اعراقه يقبل العذرا

I accepted his excuse for aloofness as an interpretation

And he whose veins are noble accepts excuses
