الا قاتل الله الدني فانه

تراه الى السوء المجرد دانيا

Alas, may God destroy the vile one, for he

Sees only evil, bare and exposed.

يرى الخير شرا والجميل اساءة

ويجعل زهر الاصدقاء اعاديا

He sees good as evil, and beauty as wrong,

And turns the flowers of friendship to foes.

ففي قلبه حقد وشؤم بوجهه

وفي عينه سخط يرى الصبح داجيا

In his heart there is hatred and ill omen on his face,

And in his eyes, wrath - he sees the dawn as gloom.

وعين الرضا عن كل عيب كليل

كما ان عين السوؤ تبدي المساويا

While the eye of acceptance is blind to every flaw,

The evil eye makes level the lofty and high.
