يا رفقتي كأسي حلا

ما مر كأسي بنوا

ه مرة الا حلا

My cup never passed landmarks,

Except sweetened,

وقط ما ارخصني

تدللا الا غلا

It never made me cheap,

Except it became expensive.

عليّ من بعد الجفا

برأفة تفضلا

To me after estrangement,

With kindness it excelled,

لو قال تعطيني الفؤا

د لم اقل والله لا

If it said give me advantages,

I would not say no, by God.

به جميعي مغرم

من عهد ما قالوا بلى

With it all of me is infatuated,

Since the era they said yes,

حقائق قديمة

بارزها تنزلا

Ancient truths,

Descending clearly,

ورب واله لقد

هيمه ريم الفلا

By the Lord and God, it

Has fascinated wandering dreams,

سلا الغرام جسمه

وللغزال ما سلا

The night of estrangement afflicted its body,

And for the gazelle, it did not afflict.

حبي الذي هيمني

غوامض الحسن جلا

My love which fascinated me,

The mysteries of beauty rejoiced,

لو عرف الغزال شأ

نه به تغزلا

If the gazelle knew its affair,

It would flirt.

والبيت والركنومن

بسوحه تبتلا

And the house and pillar,

Dew dripped from its meadows,

لم انحرف عن بابه

ولو كواني البلا

I did not deviate from its door,

Even if distress afflicted me,

ولم امل لغيره

ولو دهاني البلا

And I did not hope for another,

Even if time afflicted me.

يا قرة العين الا

ترى ضنى حالي الا

O delight of the eye, do not

See my miserable state,

ان كنت تبغى قتلتي

بالهجر لا حول ولا

If you wanted to kill me with estrangement, no power nor might but God’s.
