دهشت ولم اطق للوجد صبراً

وماج الدمع من عيني بحرا

I was astounded, and had no patience for ardour,

وحين سروا وشب القلب جمرا

مددت الى الوداع يدي واخرى

And when they departed, my heart burned like embers,

I reached out my hand for farewell, then the other,

حبست بها الحبوة على فؤادي

With which I kept my love imprisoned in my heart.
