We drank our beloved’s cup openly;
At the sight of him, we understood—bewildered.
Through it we beheld the cupbearer reveal himself,
And through his self-revelation we became intoxicated.
We sought safety from the cupbearer of the fiery wine,
But he cried, “There is no veil, no curtain!”
We saw the cup unveiled in the taverns;
We thought it fire within the goblets.
