  1. يا مَن أخَذْ قَلْبي مِنِّي

    هَواكَ هَيَّمَني

    O you who took my heart from me

    Your love bewildered me

  2. حجَبْتَني عني

    بِيَّا فَما أظْهَر

    You veiled me from myself

    O beloved, so I did not appear

  3. وغِبْتُ عن عيْني

    كأنِّي لم أظْهر

    And I was absent from my eyes

    As if I did not appear

  4. فَصِرتُ أطلُبني

    لَعلَّ بِي أظْفَر

    So I started looking for myself

    Maybe I will find myself

  5. وقُلْتُ في ذِهْني دَعْني

    وِصالِي بي يُغْني

    And I said to myself, leave me alone

    And let my union with you suffice

  6. مَنْ حَبَّ أن يَبْقَى

    يَفْنَى عنِ الأوهامْ

    Whoever wants to remain

    Will perish from illusions

  7. ويَتَّصِفْ حَقَّا

    بِصِفةِ الخُدَّام

    And will truly become characterized

    With the attributes of servants

  8. فإنه يُرْقَى

    مَراقِي الأعْلام

    For he will ascend

    The heights of greatness

  9. يعيشْ ملِكْ دايِم مَهَنِّي

    بِفَقْرِه مَغْنى

    Living an everlasting sovereign, satisfied

    With his poverty

  10. هذا الذِي يَقْنَع

    في ذَا الوجودْ سُلطان

    This is the one who is content

    In this existence, a sultan

  11. فلا يكُنْ يَطْمَع

    يَشْمَت بِه الشيطان

    So he does not aspire

    For Satan to gloat over him

  12. وعندَما يُخْدَع

    يبُوءْ بالخُسْرانْ

    And when he is deceived

    He will suffer loss

  13. فافْهَمْ وخُذْ عنِّي يا بني

    وبَعْدَ ذَا صِلْني

    So understand and take from me, my son

    And after this, keep me company

  14. إِنْ كُنْتَ تصدقني

    خَلِّ العذولْ وافهمْ

    If you believe me

    Leave foolishness and understand

  15. واصْغَى لِتَسْمَعْني

    ذَا الْعِلْمُ يُتْعَلمَّ

    And listen to hear me

    This knowledge is learned

  16. واحْذَرْ ولا تُدْنِي

    مَنْ جَهْلُهُ يُعْلَمْ

    And beware and do not belittle

    One whose ignorance is known

  17. فإنَّه مَعْلومْ يُضْني

    فاتْرُكْهُ واصْحُبْني

    For he is tiresomely stupid

    So leave him and accompany me

  18. أيْنَ الذي يَطْلُب

    ويَفْهَمُ المعنى

    Where is the one who seeks

    And understands the meaning?

  19. دَعْهُ إِذَنْ يَرْقُب

    نَجْمَ الحكم منَّا

    Let him then observe

    The star of wisdom from us

  20. فإنْ ظَهَرْ يَقْرُبْ

    ويَبْقَى يَنْشُدْنا

    If he appears, he draws near

    And remains reciting our verses

  21. عِشْقُ المليحْ يا صاحْ فَنِّي

    وشُرْبي مِنْ دَنِّي

    Passion for the beautiful, my friend, makes me cease to exist

    And my drinking from the lowly
